How 2-1 teams have done

From 2-1, a team plays a best-of-three: win it and it is through. Lose, and it has one more best-of-three at 2-2. We put every Swiss Stage match of 2024 and 2025 in order from Riot’s schedule and followed every team that reached 2-1.

Year Teams at 2-1 Qualified Went out
2024 6 4: Top Esports, Hanwha Life, FlyQuest, T1 (won the title) Dplus Kia, G2
2025 6 5: Hanwha Life, Gen.G, G2, CTBC Flying Oyster, Top Esports FlyQuest
Both 12 9 3

Read the nine with care. Six 2-1 teams meet each other in three matches, so exactly three go through at once in every year; that half is built into the format. The real test is the other half: of the six teams that lost at 2-1 and fell to 2-2, three recovered and three went out.

Compare yesterday’s count for teams at 1-2: three of twelve got through (Hanwha Life at 1-2).

T1’s own two years

In 2024 T1 were at 2-1, won their next series, and went on to win the title. In 2025 they were at 1-2 and still won it. Neither year says what happens in this one.

Who T1 could meet

Six teams are at 2-1 after round three: T1, Invictus Gaming, Top Esports, Bilibili Gaming, Movistar KOI and LYON. Riot’s schedule lists nine best-of-three matches, all still “TBD”, from 29 October to 1 November (KST) for rounds four and five; the pairings had not been published when we wrote. Gen.G and Dplus Kia are already through at 3-0 (the order they qualified in). Every team’s record and every 2-1 path are on our Worlds 2026 page.
