Gen.G Beat LYON 2-1 to Reach the Worlds 2026 Quarter-Finals. The LCK Took the First Two Spots
Gen.G lost game 1 to LYON, then won the next two on 26 October (KST) to finish the Swiss Stage 3-0, after Dplus Kia. In 2024 and 2025 the first two teams through came from two different leagues.
The table this is written from: /worlds-2026
Gen.G are into the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Championship. They lost the first game of their best-of-three against LYON on 26 October, then won the next two, and finished the Swiss Stage at 3-0. Earlier the same morning Dplus Kia had qualified first, also at 3-0 (how they got there).
The game LYON took was the first Gen.G had lost at this tournament: their first two Swiss matches were single games, both wins.
The three games, from Riot’s live stats
| Game | Winner | Kills | Gold | Towers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | LYON | 10–4 to LYON | 66,649–59,709 to LYON | 9–3 to LYON |
| 2 | Gen.G | 16–9 | 56,906–47,314 | 9–1 |
| 3 | Gen.G | 15–7 | 66,306–56,270 | 7–3 |
LYON also took both barons in game 1. In game 2 Gen.G took all four dragons.
Both first spots to one league
We put every Swiss Stage match in Riot’s schedule in order and noted when each team reached three wins.
| Year | First in | Second in |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | LNG (LPL), 3-0 | Gen.G (LCK), 3-0 |
| 2025 | KT Rolster (LCK), 3-0 | Anyone’s Legend (LPL), 3-0 |
| 2026 | Dplus Kia (LCK), 3-0 | Gen.G (LCK), 3-0 |
In the two earlier years we could count, the first two places were split between Korea’s LCK and China’s LPL. This year both went to the LCK. Two years is too few to call that unusual; 2023 is missing from the feed’s records.
Gen.G were second in at 3-0 in 2024 as well, and went out in the semi-finals that year. In both 2024 and 2025 the champion, T1, qualified later, at 3-1 and then 3-2.
What it does not say
The order of qualifying is not a ranking of strength, and the past two years do not predict this one. LYON, now 2-1, play again in round four. Hanwha Life (1-2) and T1 (2-1 after they beat CTBC Flying Oyster on 27 October) are still in the Swiss Stage. All records and the full order for 2024 and 2025 are on our Worlds 2026 page.
