Blackpink's Rosé released 'new trick' on 18 September. The day before release, her English Wikipedia page ran 1.26x her 30-day average — ahead of, not on, the release itself.

Blackpink’s Rosé released “new trick” on 18 September — a single whose music video, directed by Dave Meyers, was filmed entirely on an iPhone 18 Pro as part of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign. The release had been announced earlier in the month, with fans already discussing the track online on 17 September, the day before it came out.
We can’t yet check the release day itself: Wikimedia’s pageviews API had not published 18 September’s numbers as of this writing, and we are not estimating them.
What we can check is the day before. Over the 29 days ending 16 September, Rosé’s English Wikipedia page averaged 2,631 views a day. On 17 September, it drew 3,303 views — 1.26 times that average. That’s a real rise, but it lands on the eve of the release, not the release itself, which fits a run-up to a known date rather than a reaction to news that broke that day.
This is a different shape from the other two Spotify-milestone stories we checked this week. Jimin’s and Riize’s streaming records were announcements about numbers already tracked by Spotify, and neither moved their reading. Rosé’s rise, by contrast, sits ahead of an unreleased single — anticipation for something that hadn’t happened yet, not a reaction to something that had. We will check the actual release day once the data allows.

- 4 September, the highest day in our window at 3,858 views (1.47x), sits inside the same run-up period as the single's announcement earlier in the month, though we did not pin it to one specific news item.
What we left out, and why
- 17 September's rise as proof the pre-release campaign caused it. Rosé's baseline itself moves more than Jimin's or Riize's did over the same 30 days — we're reporting an elevated day next to a real release date, not a controlled test.
- Any reading of 18 September itself, the actual release day. Wikimedia's pageviews API had not yet published that day's data as of this writing.
- Streaming or chart numbers for 'new trick.' We hold reading data, not sales or streaming data, and the song is too new for either to be independently reported yet.
