Jin Was Called BTS's 'Sold-Out King' This Week — He Ranks 5th of 7 in One Public Count
Korean outlets named Jin sales king for a sold-out plush toy. On the one number about his group we can check ourselves — a year of English Wikipedia lookups — he ranks 5th of 7 BTS members, 4th of 7 in the most recent month.
The table this is written from: /member-vs-group
Korean entertainment outlets reported this week that BTS’s Jin had been named a “sold-out king” — a Pony plush toy tied to his name sold out, and he was ranked first on real-time, daily, weekly and monthly charts wherever those figures are kept. We cannot check that: it sits on a retail platform’s own ranking system, and we do not hold a way into it.
What we can check is something adjacent and already open — how many people go and look each BTS member up on English Wikipedia, over a full year and in the most recent single month. We publish that count every time it’s relevant, and it happens to answer a version of this week’s question: among Jin’s own six bandmates, where does he sit?
By the most recent month, Jin is 4th of 7
| BTS member | August 2026 lookups |
|---|---|
| V | 118,194 |
| Jungkook | 106,474 |
| Jimin | 68,076 |
| Jin | 63,443 |
| RM | 63,019 |
| Suga | 61,419 |
| J-Hope | 52,476 |
Jin edges RM by 424 lookups — inside rounding error for a monthly count — and sits well behind Jimin, and further still behind Jungkook and V.
Across the full twelve months, he is 5th of 7
| BTS member | Twelve-month lookups |
|---|---|
| V | 1,350,428 |
| Jungkook | 1,155,142 |
| RM | 711,190 |
| Jimin | 706,366 |
| Jin | 670,861 |
| Suga | 664,049 |
| J-Hope | 579,762 |
Over the longer window RM and Jimin both pass him, so Jin’s rank drops one place, to fifth. He stays ahead of Suga and J-Hope in both windows.
What this does and does not tell you
A Wikipedia pageview and a sold-out merchandise chart are not the same kind of number, and we are not arguing that one disproves the other — a plush toy can sell out completely while the person it is shaped like ranks fifth of seven in encyclopaedia lookups; the two facts do not conflict, because they count different things. What we can say is narrower and, we think, more useful: whichever chart produced this week’s “sold-out king” headline, it is not a chart we can open and check ourselves. This one is, and on this one, Jin is not first in his own group, in either window we have.

What we checked
- This is the same twelve-month BTS panel published in our 10 September 2026 piece on members outdrawing their groups — the same window, the same filter, the same seven names. We do not re-run a fresh pull to make a number come out differently.
- The most recent single month is shown here for the first time per member. Our earlier piece gave the group's own last month against its single biggest member only; it did not rank all seven members for that month.
- Every member article was resolved through redirects and checked for a link back to the BTS article before counting, the same two checks described in the earlier piece — a redirect or a wrong namesake can move a number by an order of magnitude.
What we left out, and why
- Not a check of the sold-out or chart claims themselves. We did not query the retail platform or its real-time, daily, weekly or monthly ranking system — that claim is reported here as reported, by Korean entertainment press, not verified by us.
- Not a measure of sales, streams or chart position. A Wikipedia pageview is a lookup, and a lookup can come from a fan, a casual reader, or someone who only just heard the name.
- Not a ranking of talent, contribution, or anything a group or label decided. It is one independently countable number and nothing else.
- Not a claim that Jin is unpopular. Fifth of seven inside one of the most-read acts on English Wikipedia is still a large number in absolute terms — 670,861 lookups over the year.
The data behind this
Written from the same data
- 5 of 2,089 posts survived a second day on Korea's forum front pages. In the English K-culture rooms, 190 of 523 did
- One film is 58 percent of the English K-pop news feed. In the drama and economy feeds, nothing passes 8 percent
- Korean writing now has a sixth K-pop generation. We tested the first five and the lines are a year off
