What DreamWorks is chasing: 93 countries, and Latvia held it 62 weeks
93 countries took KPop Demon Hunters into a Netflix top 10, number one in 76 of them. A trade headline says DreamWorks is answering with Forgotten Island. We counted what is being answered — Korea sat exactly at the median.

A trade headline on 5 September says DreamWorks is answering KPop Demon Hunters with a film called Forgotten Island, out on 25 September. We have not seen it and this piece does not measure it.
What we can measure is the thing being answered. We went to Netflix’s weekly country tables — 269 weeks of them — and counted every week KPop Demon Hunters appeared in a country’s top 10.

Korea sat exactly at the median. Forty-six countries held it longer than its home market did.
The longest runs are in the Baltics, not the big markets
The five countries that held it longest are Latvia (62 weeks), Estonia (60), Lithuania (59), Serbia (57) and Mexico (51). The United States, the largest market Netflix publishes, is well behind at 49.
This is a presence count, not an audience count — a small country’s top 10 is easier to stay in than a large one’s, and we are not claiming Latvians watched it more than Americans. What the number says is narrower and still worth knowing: in 46 markets this film was a fixture of the list for longer than it was in Korea.
It did not sit there. It kept coming back
The number most people would expect — one long unbroken run — is not what the tables show.
Seventy-eight of the 93 countries have a gap. The title fell out of the top 10 and returned, sometimes more than once. Only 15 countries held it without interruption.
That distinction only exists because the weeks and the longest unbroken run were counted separately. A single “weeks on chart” figure would have hidden it, and would have made the run look like something it was not.
The singer is the other half of the measurement
We spent this morning counting how English Wikipedia titles Korean stars, and one name came out of that work with an odd shape. Ejae — Kim Eun-jae, who provided the singing voice for Rumi and co-wrote songs on the soundtrack — has 3.92 million reads on English Wikipedia and not one disambiguation bracket.
That combination is unusual. Among the 100 most-read Korean stars we hold, the names that get read at that level normally collect brackets, because the encyclopedia has to tell them apart from someone else called the same thing. Nobody else is called Ejae. A studio chasing this film is chasing something with no established name to compete with, which is a harder thing to reproduce than a chart position.
What this cannot tell you
It cannot tell you whether Forgotten Island will do any of this. It is not released, we have not seen it, and a chart count of one film says nothing about another.
It cannot tell you how long anyone watched. Presence in a top 10 is presence, not hours.
And our tables stop on 23 August 2026. If the run continued past that week, we did not measure it, and we are not going to write as though we did.

What we checked
- Weeks are counted from the raw weekly country tables, one row per country per week, not from a summary anyone published. A country's week count and its longest unbroken run are counted separately, which is how the gaps became visible
- The title matched 3,043 rows under one exact name. No fuzzy matching was used, so a near-miss title cannot inflate the count
- We checked who Ejae is before naming her. English Wikipedia's article says she provided the singing voice for Rumi and co-wrote songs on the soundtrack. We did not take it from memory
- Russia is excluded from the country tables at source, so 93 is the number of countries Netflix published, not the number of countries in the world
What we left out, and why
- Forgotten Island. It is not out, we have not seen it, and nothing here measures it or predicts it
- Whether the two films resemble each other. That is a judgement about content and this piece counts chart weeks
- Anything after 2026-08-23, the last week in our tables. The run may have continued and we did not measure it
- Hours watched. This is presence in a country's top 10, which is a different thing from how long anyone watched
- Box office, merchandising and music revenue. None of it is in the Netflix tables
