[VS News] Jung Kook vs. RM: On English Wikipedia, One BTS Member Reads Almost Double the Other
Fan-vote apps like KDOL rank K-pop idols head-to-head. We checked one such pairing — BTS's Jung Kook and RM — the only way we can: English Wikipedia lookups. Jung Kook draws 1.7 times RM's count, in every window we hold.

Fan-vote platforms built around head-to-head idol rankings are having a moment — KDOL’s monthly tables and StarNews Korea’s live star-ranking page both pit individual K-pop idols against each other and publish a winner. We hold no data from either platform and cannot verify their vote totals. What we can do is take the same kind of pairing and check it against something we do hold: English Wikipedia’s own reading data.
This is the first in an occasional series — [VS News] — that takes one such pairing and measures it the only way we can independently redo ourselves.
First pairing: BTS’s Jung Kook and RM

Jung Kook drew 1.74 times as many English Wikipedia lookups as RM over the same 30 days.
The gap is not new — it holds in two other windows we already had on file
Our BTS member-vs-group work already carries two longer windows for the same two people, and both point the same direction:
- Twelve months, September 2025-August 2026: Jung Kook 1,155,142 vs RM 711,190 — a 1.62x gap.
- Most recent single month in that panel: Jung Kook 106,474 vs RM 63,019 — a 1.69x gap.
Three separate windows — twelve months, one month, and the fresh 30 days measured for this piece — all put the gap between 1.6x and 1.75x, in the same direction each time.
What we are not saying
We are not saying which member “wins” a fan vote — we did not measure one. We are not saying why the gap exists: solo schedules, appearances and news cycles all move Wikipedia lookups and none of them were isolated here. What we can say is narrower: on the one axis we can independently check ourselves, one bandmate consistently draws close to double the other’s English-language reading, in every window we hold.

What we checked
- 15 August-13 September 2026, 30 days: Jung Kook 111,152 lookups (avg 3,705/day) vs RM 63,723 lookups (avg 2,124/day) — Jung Kook reads 1.74 times RM's count.
- The same order and a similar ratio hold in two other windows we already had on file: the twelve months from September 2025 to August 2026 (Jung Kook 1,155,142 vs RM 711,190, a 1.62x gap) and the most recent single month in that panel (Jung Kook 106,474 vs RM 63,019, a 1.69x gap) — both published in our BTS member-vs-group work. This piece's 30-day figures are freshly pulled, not reused from that table.
- Both titles were confirmed against Wikipedia's page-summary endpoint to resolve to the person, not a disambiguation or company page, before counting.
What we left out, and why
- Any comparison to fan-vote totals from KDOL or StarNews for these two specific members. We checked and neither app currently publishes a head-to-head we could verify for this pairing at time of writing, so this piece measures Wikipedia lookups only, not vote counts.
- Any explanation for the gap. Solo release schedule, military service status, variety-show appearances and news cycles all move Wikipedia lookups, and we measured none of them here.
- A claim that RM is unpopular. A steady ~2,100 English Wikipedia lookups a day is still a large audience on a global measure — the story is the size of the gap to a bandmate, not that either number is small.
- Any ranking of the two as people. This counts encyclopedia page visits, not talent, contribution to the group, or any other quality.
