Two Netflix K-Dramas Premiered the Same Day. The Chart-Topping One Had the Weakest Wikipedia Reading Gain.
Both shows launched on Netflix October 9. Korea Times named 'Doctor X: Mafia in White' the week's global non-English chart-topper. Its lead actor's English Wikipedia reading rose the least of three leads we measured across both premieres.
Two Netflix K-dramas launched on the same day, October 9: the medical noir series “Doctor X: Mafia in White,” led by Kim Ji-won, and the rom-com “Take Charge of My Heart,” co-led by Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin. Five days later, The Korea Times reported that Doctor X had topped Netflix’s weekly non-English TV chart in South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, and reached the top 10 in 36 countries.
English Wikipedia reading, measured independently of that chart report, tells a different story about the three leads.
The same premiere week, three different reading levels
| Actor | Show | Pre-premiere baseline (median) | Premiere week (median) | Multiple |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kim Young-kwang | Take Charge of My Heart | 810 | 11,608 | 14.3x |
| Chae Soo-bin | Take Charge of My Heart | 592 | 5,806 | 9.8x |
| Kim Ji-won | Doctor X: Mafia in White | 1,062 | 3,807 | 3.6x |
Kim Ji-won leads the show that press coverage singled out as a global chart-topper. Her English Wikipedia reading rose the least of the three leads, both in relative terms (3.6x her own baseline, against 9.8x and 14.3x for the other two) and in absolute premiere-week level — her median of 3,807 daily reads trails Chae Soo-bin’s 5,806 and Kim Young-kwang’s 11,608, even though Kim Ji-won started from the highest baseline of the three.
A higher starting point, a lower ending point
Before either show premiered, Kim Ji-won was already the most-read of the three actors, with a median of 1,062 daily English Wikipedia reads against Kim Young-kwang’s 810 and Chae Soo-bin’s 592 — consistent with her being the more internationally established name coming in. That lead didn’t hold. By premiere week, both Take Charge of My Heart leads had overtaken her in absolute reading, not just in rate of gain.
What we can’t say about the show itself
Doctor X: Mafia in White’s own Wikipedia page shows a premiere-week median of 9,492 daily reads and a single-day peak of 21,479 on 11 October — a lower median than Take Charge of My Heart’s own page (11,572) but a higher peak (Take Charge of My Heart’s page peaked at 17,260). What we can’t do is state a reliable baseline multiple for Doctor X’s page: it has only six days of pageview history before the 9 October premiere, too few days for a trustworthy before/after ratio. We’re flagging that gap rather than filling it with a weak number.
What this does and doesn’t say
This measures one specific audience — people who looked up an English Wikipedia page, a proxy for reference-style curiosity rather than streaming consumption or chart performance. It does not contradict The Korea Times’ chart report, which is about Netflix’s own viewership rankings, a different measurement entirely. What it does say is specific: the lead actor of the show press named a global chart-topper did not see the largest, or even the second-largest, English Wikipedia reading gain among three leads whose shows premiered the same day.

What we checked
- Pre-premiere baseline (20 Sep–8 Oct, 19 days), median daily English Wikipedia reads: Kim Ji-won 1,062; Kim Young-kwang 810; Chae Soo-bin 592.
- Premiere week (9–15 Oct, 7 days), median daily reads: Kim Ji-won 3,807 (3.6x baseline); Chae Soo-bin 5,806 (9.8x); Kim Young-kwang 11,608 (14.3x).
- Single-day peaks in the premiere week: Kim Ji-won 6,940 (6.5x baseline, 11 Oct); Chae Soo-bin 7,692 (13.0x, 11 Oct); Kim Young-kwang 14,955 (18.5x, 11 Oct).
- Kim Ji-won started the baseline period with the highest median of the three (1,062, versus 810 and 592) and still ended premiere week with the lowest absolute reading level (3,807, versus 5,806 and 11,608).
- 'Doctor X: Mafia in White's' own Wikipedia page shows a premiere-week median of 9,492 and a peak of 21,479 on 11 October, but its page has only 6 days of pageview history before the premiere — too thin a baseline to state a reliable before/after multiple for the show page itself.
What we left out, and why
- The show page's own baseline multiple — not stated here. Doctor X: Mafia in White's Wikipedia page appears to have been created only days before the 9 October premiere, leaving too few baseline days to compute a trustworthy ratio.
- Streaming numbers, Netflix's own Top 10 placement, or viewership outside the three countries and 36-country top-10 figure The Korea Times reported — those are press-reported facts, not something we measured.
- Reading in Korean or any language other than English — this measures one audience, English Wikipedia readers.
- Why Kim Ji-won's reading gain lagged the other two leads. Her higher starting baseline (already an established star), prior-role recognition, and how each show's trailers and clips circulated could all matter; we did not test any of them.
