KDOL Named Jimin Its No. 1 K-Pop Idol for August. On Wikipedia That Month, He Wasn't Even First in BTS
A fan-voting app crowned Jimin August's runaway idol champion by an 850-million-vote margin. On English Wikipedia the same month, he drew fewer lookups than two of his own bandmates — a pattern that holds again in September's first 12 days.
The table this is written from: /member-vs-group
On 13 September 2026, StarNews Korea reported that BTS’s Jimin had finished first in the KDOL app’s August 2026 monthly idol ranking — 1,519,172,298 “hearts,” more than 850 million ahead of second place, on top of a claimed 222 consecutive weekly No. 1 finishes and a 61-day daily streak. KDOL’s own site was unreachable when we checked, so none of those figures are ours to verify; they are reported news, and we treat them as exactly that.
We hold a different, independently checkable count for the same seven people: how many times each BTS member’s English Wikipedia article was opened.
The freshest window we have: 1-13 September 2026
| Member | Lookups | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jung Kook | 49,576 |
| 2 | V | 42,795 |
| 3 | RM | 28,921 |
| 4 | Jimin | 25,057 |
| 5 | Jin | 22,585 |
| 6 | Suga | 21,786 |
| 7 | J-Hope | 18,803 |
Twelve days into September, Jimin sits fourth of seven — 12.0% of the combined lookups across all seven members. Jung Kook alone draws almost double Jimin’s total.
This is not new — we published August’s version of this table on 10 September
Our 10 September piece already counted August 2026 lookups for the same seven members, in the context of a different report (a Korean fan poll, not KDOL). Jimin ranked 3rd of 7 that month, at 68,076 lookups — 12.8% of the total. Across the full twelve-month window (September 2025 to August 2026), the same piece has him 4th of 7. We are not re-measuring those; the fresh number in this piece is September’s first 12 days, and it lands in the same place the other two windows do.
Three separate windows — twelve months, one full month, and twelve fresh days — all put Jimin third or fourth among his own six bandmates by this measure. None of the three put him first.
What we are not saying
We are not saying KDOL’s number is wrong. A vote inside a fan-voting app and a lookup on an encyclopedia page are different acts, made by people who may not overlap at all, and disagreement between the two counts is not evidence against either one. What we can say is narrower: on the one axis we can independently check ourselves, the “runaway global No. 1” framing does not repeat. Two of Jimin’s own bandmates outdraw him on English Wikipedia in every window we hold, including the freshest one.
The full member-by-member method, redirect-resolution notes and the twelve-month table are on member-vs-group.
These are statistics, not you. This is not investment advice.

What we checked
- September 1-13, 2026, English Wikipedia lookups: Jung Kook 49,576 (1st) · V 42,795 (2nd) · RM 28,921 (3rd) · Jimin 25,057 (4th, 12.0% of the seven-member total) · Jin 22,585 · Suga 21,786 · J-Hope 18,803. Same seven titles, same access filter, pulled fresh for this piece.
- This is not the first time we have measured this axis. Our 10 September 2026 piece already published August 2026 lookups for the same seven members — Jimin ranked 3rd of 7 that month too, at 68,076 lookups (12.8% of the total) — and the twelve-month figure, where he ranks 4th of 7. We link those tables rather than reprint them.
- KDOL's own figures (1,519,172,298 hearts for August, an 850-million-plus margin over second place) are a voting-app's self-reported total. We could not verify them: KDOL's own site was unreachable for us at the time of writing, and even if it had been, a vote count from an app with its own user base is not something we can independently re-derive the way we can a public pageview count.
What we left out, and why
- Any claim that Wikipedia lookups and KDOL votes measure the same thing. One counts people who chose to open an encyclopedia page; the other counts people who chose to cast a vote inside one app. Disagreement between them is not evidence that either is wrong.
- Any verification of KDOL's reported totals, including the 22.63-billion cumulative figure, the 222 consecutive weekly No.1s, or the 61-day daily streak. We hold no data from KDOL and report only what StarNews published.
- Any explanation for why lookups sit where they do. Solo activity, tour dates, military service and news cycles all move this and we measured none of them.
- A claim that Jimin is unpopular. Fourth or third of seven inside one band is still a large share of attention on a global measure — the story is the gap between that and 'runaway No. 1', not a claim that the number is small.
