Jin has topped an idol poll 131 weeks running. On Wikipedia he is fifth of seven
Korean outlets report Jin leading one idol vote 67 weeks running and another 131. We counted English Wikipedia reads for 380 Korean acts and 1,247 members: BTS sends 65.7% of its reading to member pages, and Jin draws 11.5% of that.

Korean entertainment outlets reported this week that Jin of BTS leads one idol vote for a 67th consecutive week, and another for a 131st — 32 straight months at the top of its monthly table. Jimin’s birthday vote is running a sixth win in a row.
We cannot check a poll. What we can check is a different thing entirely: when somebody who is not in the fandom wants to know who these people are, whose page do they open?
For most Korean acts, the reading is on the members
We put each act’s English Wikipedia page beside its members’ pages — 380 acts, 1,247 act–member pairs, twelve months to August 2026.

For the median act, three reads in four land on a member rather than on the act. That is worth stating plainly because the reverse would be the intuitive answer: a group is one name to learn, and seven members are seven.
BTS, member by member
BTS sends 65.7% of its reading to member pages — below the median, because the group’s own page is one of the most-read Korean articles in English at 2.77 million reads over the window.

Jin sits fifth of seven, and the ordering matters less than it looks. The distance from fifth to fourth is 0.6% of the member total — 30,655 reads out of 5.3 million, closer to a tie than to a rank. The distance from first to second is 3.5%, nearly six times larger. The bottom five sit inside a band from 9.9% to 12.2%; V and Jungkook are the two that stand apart from it.
So the honest sentence is not “Jin is fifth.” It is: two members are read much more than the other five, and those five are hard to separate.
The two counts are measuring different things
This is the part we would rather over-explain than let a reader guess at.
A vote is a count of effort. Somebody decided to open an app, log in, and press a button, often daily, often organised. It measures how much a fandom is willing to do, and a fandom can be very large without being very willing, or very willing without being very large.
An encyclopaedia read is a count of curiosity from outside. Somebody heard a name and went to find out. It is a low-effort act, it is mostly not fans, and nobody organises it.
So a person can lead a poll for 131 weeks and be fifth in reads without either number being wrong. They answer different questions. We are not ranking popularity here, and we do not have the data that would let us.
What would change our mind
If Jin’s read share moved after this run of poll wins, that would be evidence the two measures are connected. We cannot say that yet: our window closes in August 2026 and this week’s reporting is newer than our data. We will be able to ask it in the October recount, and we will report the answer whichever way it goes.

What we checked
- Two independent measurements agree. The data page already carried a separate count made on 5 September: eight soloists against their groups, median daily reads over thirty days. This article's dataset is twelve-month totals across 380 acts. Where both contain the same pair they point the same way in 8 of 8 — different windows, different units, different collectors. The page recomputes that comparison on every build rather than quoting a number we checked once.
- Sub-units are separated, not blended. Our first pass put Got the Beat, Route 0, Moonbin & Sanha and BtoB 4U at the top, all above 95% member share — but that is a band name nobody knows, not curiosity choosing people. Wikidata has no property marking a sub-unit, so we infer one when half or more of an act's members also belong to another act in the set, and we report the two groups apart. Excluding them moves the median from 75.7% to 70.3%: smaller, same side of the line.
- Members whose reads could not be retrieved are left out of the sum rather than counted as zero. One act of the 381 with members was dropped for that reason and the drop is stated on the page.
