BTS's Jin Hit Week 137 at No. 1. English Wikipedia Reading Hit a 45-Day Low the Same Week.

Korean press has tracked BTS's Jin topping a K-pop fan-voting app's individual ranking for well over two years running. We measured English Wikipedia reads for his page over the same recent stretch. They fell to the lowest point in 45 days.

Korean entertainment outlets have been running a near-weekly update for most of this year: BTS’s Jin, StarNews reports, has not lost the top spot in MyOnePick’s K-pop individual weekly ranking since the streak began — 128 weeks in mid-August, 131 by early September, 135 at the end of September, and 137 as of this week’s report. It is the kind of number that keeps renewing itself, a fandom-strength story told in consecutive weeks rather than any single event.

We cannot verify the app’s vote counts. What we can measure independently, over the same recent stretch, is a different kind of attention: how many people opened Jin’s English Wikipedia page, each day.

The same six weeks, read the other way

Reads
Median daily reads, full 45-day window (1 Sep–15 Oct) 1,396
Median daily reads, first 22 days 1,696
Median daily reads, last 22 days 1,322
Change, first half to second half −22%
Baseline median, prior 63 days (1 Jul–1 Sep) 1,931

Every figure in that table but one is below the baseline that came before it. English-language reference lookups for Jin have been easing for months, not just this stretch.

The most recent day we have is the lowest one

The last date in our window, 15 October, recorded 1,102 reads — the single lowest day across all 45 days measured, arriving in the same week StarNews reported the streak reaching 137.

What a vote and a page view are not

A MyOnePick vote and a Wikipedia page view are not measuring the same behavior. One is cast inside a fan-voting app, repeatedly, by people already following the artist closely — a streak like this one rewards sustained, organized fan participation more than it reflects general-audience attention. The other is a one-off visit to an encyclopedia page, often by someone checking a basic fact rather than voting for anything. An artist can hold one number steady for 137 straight weeks while the other drifts down, and neither number is wrong — they are counting different things.

What we can say is narrow: whatever is sustaining the MyOnePick streak, it has not shown up as rising, or even steady, English-language reference-lookup interest. By that specific measure, reading attention eased through the same stretch the streak extended.

English Wikipedia pageviews, all-access, user traffic only (bots excluded), daily, 1 September–15 October 2026 with a 1 July–1 September 2026 baseline; measured 16 October 2026. Medians, not means, so single days do not carry the whole window. The MyOnePick streak figures are attributed to the cited StarNews reporting and were not independently recomputed.

What we checked

  • 45-day window (1 Sep–15 Oct 2026) median daily English Wikipedia reads for Jin's page: 1,396.
  • First 22 days of that window, median 1,696. Last 22 days, median 1,322 — a 22% decline.
  • The single lowest day in the whole 45-day window is the most recent one we have: 15 October, 1,102 reads.
  • Wider baseline: the 63 days before this window (1 Jul–1 Sep 2026) had a median of 1,931 — higher than either half of the period we measured.
  • StarNews's own count has climbed through the same stretch we measured: 128 weeks (12 Aug) → 131 (4 Sep) → 133 (20 Sep) → 135 (30 Sep) → 137 reported as of this week.

What we left out, and why

  • The MyOnePick vote totals and the streak count itself. We did not verify the app's internal tallying; we are citing StarNews's reporting, not recomputing votes.
  • Why English Wikipedia reading fell. A pageview series does not explain itself — release cycles, unrelated news, and seasonal variation all move this number, and we did not check it against an event calendar.
  • Readership inside Korea, or in any language other than English. This measures one audience: people reading the English-language article.
  • Whether a vote and a page view measure the same kind of interest. MyOnePick counts app votes, cast by people who already follow the artist closely. Wikipedia pageviews count encyclopedia lookups, often by people checking a basic fact. Treating one as a stand-in for the other is the mistake this piece is trying not to make.
