Yesterday we reported that Keonho of Cortis had overtaken his bandmate Sunghyun in Star News’s STARPOLL fan vote, after Sunghyun had led every snapshot we took since mid-September (the first story).

It lasted a day.

Four snapshots

Snapshot Sunghyun Keonho First
12 Oct 152,428 126,351 Sunghyun
23 Oct 15,418 9,859 Sunghyun
24 Oct 25,487 34,375 Keonho
25 Oct 64,617 49,264 Sunghyun

Between the 24 and 25 October snapshots, Sunghyun gained 39,130 votes, nearly four times his gain of the day before (10,069). Keonho gained 14,889. The lead swung by 24,241 votes in one day.

The totals dropped sharply between 12 and 23 October, so the poll appears to have started a new period in between. We compare only snapshots inside the same period.

Everyone else rose more slowly

Place on 25 Oct Name 24 Oct 25 Oct Gain
3 Jin (BTS) 6,166 9,264 +3,098
4 Junho (2PM) 4,584 6,528 +1,944
5 Jungkook (BTS) 1,775 2,297 +522

The two Cortis members together gained 54,019 votes in a day, nearly ten times the other three in the top five combined (5,564).

What this does and does not say

A fan vote counts how hard fans are campaigning, not how many people care. A swing of this size in one day fits organised voting, but STARPOLL does not show who voted, so we cannot confirm it. It says nothing about which member more people listen to. When we checked on 24 October, neither member had his own English Wikipedia article.

What we checked

  • Male idol, first two places: 12 Oct Sunghyun 152,428, Keonho 126,351; 23 Oct Sunghyun 15,418, Keonho 9,859; 24 Oct Keonho 34,375, Sunghyun 25,487; 25 Oct Sunghyun 64,617, Keonho 49,264.
  • 24→25 Oct change: Sunghyun +39,130; Keonho +14,889; BTS's Jin (third) 6,166→9,264; 2PM's Junho (fourth) 4,584→6,528.
  • The totals fell between 12 and 23 October, which suggests the vote period reset; we report each snapshot as published.

What we left out, and why

  • Places below fifth, which need a logged-in app API we do not use.
  • Who is voting, and how many accounts: STARPOLL does not publish it.
  • This is a fan vote, a campaign count. It is not a measure of how many people are interested in either member.
