Netflix publishes a rank per title, per country, per week. That makes one question answerable for every run on the chart: was the opening week the highest it ever sat?
When a title enters a country's top 10, is that week its highest rank — or does it climb afterwards?
How a run is counted. One run is one title in one country on one list (Films or TV). A title charting in six countries is six runs.
| Runs | Climbed after week one | Peaked in week one | Mean weeks | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Korean titles | 7,022 | 57.5% | 42.5% | 4.9 |
| Everything else | 101,381 | 40.5% | 59.5% | 3.9 |
Runs of a single week are not in this table. A run of a single week cannot climb, so counting it as "did not climb" would be counting the calendar rather than the title. The gap between the two rows is 17 points.
Korean runs last longer — 4.9 weeks against 3.9 — and a longer run has more weeks in which to beat its first. If that is all this is, the gap should vanish once runs of the same length are compared.
| Run length | Korean climbed | Everything else | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 weeks | 39.7% n=2,535 | 30.7% n=48,895 | +9 |
| 3 weeks | 65.2% n=1,262 | 49.8% n=21,824 | +15.4 |
| 4–5 weeks | 63.3% n=1,369 | 47.1% n=17,529 | +16.2 |
| 6–10 weeks | 69.1% n=1,413 | 50% n=8,778 | +19.1 |
| 11 weeks or more | 81.7% n=443 | 58% n=4,355 | +23.7 |
It does not vanish in any band. The gap runs from 9 points to 23.7, and among the longer runs it widens rather than narrows.
| Format | Korean climbed | Everything else | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series | 62.5% n=4,728 | 46.6% n=35,952 | +15.9 |
| Films | 47.1% n=2,294 | 37.1% n=65,429 | +10 |
Korean chart presence is more heavily series than the field is, so the two formats are separated here. Korean films climb less often than Korean series and still more often than non-Korean films — the gap survives in both formats. The full story →
Across 93 markets, 57.5% of Korean chart runs reach a higher rank than their opening week against 40.5% for everything else. Longer runs give more chances to climb — and the gap holds inside every run-length band.
