Does it change anything to split brands by kind instead of ranking them together?
Yes. Indonesia sits 1st in one kind and 4th in another. Read as one lump, that disappears.
reads per million reads of that edition (백만분율). Reading is divided by the size of each Wikipedia edition, so a country with fewer readers is not pushed to the bottom for being small. Window — 2025-08 through 2026-07, 12 months, human traffic only. A brand enters a kind's total only if it has an article in all four editions; brands missing one are shown in the panel but left out of the sum, because counting a missing article as zero would make an encyclopaedia gap look like disinterest.

⚠ A kind holding fewer than 3 brands is too thin to call a pattern. It is shown so the panel is complete, and marked so it is not read as one. The thin kinds here are Everyday fashion labels and Korean car makers.
Indonesia sits 3, 4, 2, 1, 4 across the kinds that are thick enough to read — first in one, last in another. That is the whole point of splitting them. A single ranking of 30 brands would have given Indonesia one position and hidden the rest.
This is not a statement that one country cares more than another. It says the four countries are interested in different kinds of thing, and a page that ranks brands together cannot show that.
Until 10 September 2026 this page measured luxury, jewellery, fashion and cars. It did not measure technology or fast food. In one morning our own feed carried four separate items about a K-pop singer becoming the face of a phone camera, and one about another becoming the face of a burger chain — two kinds this page could not have said a single number about. So we added them, over the same 2025-08 through 2026-07, 12 months, human traffic only window, and re-read everything.
One company carries that kind: Google is 75.1% of it. Take it out and technology is 1.3 times the luxury houses, not 5.2.
We nearly published the wrong number. The kind totals say technology is 5.2 times the luxury houses, and that reads as though the kind is overwhelming. It is not the kind — it is one entry. Google alone is 1038.59 of the 1382.54 total, and nobody makes Google the face of a campaign. The honest comparison is brand against brand, and it is smaller and still real: the phone company is read about three times as much as the most-read luxury house here, and the burger chain about one and a half times.
Fast food and coffee chains also come in above german car makers — 183.67 against 165.34. The kinds a global brand deal now reaches are not the kinds this page was built to watch.
Read this multiple carefully. A technology company's article is read for reasons that have nothing to do with the brand being desirable — people look up a phone, a company, a founder, a lawsuit. A luxury house's article is read by people interested in the house. The two are not the same kind of curiosity, and this page cannot separate them. What the number does support is narrower and still useful: far more people in these four countries end up on the technology pages. If a face is placed there, more people are in the room.
⚠ Adding a kind late does not make it look small here. Pageviews can be asked for past months, so the new kinds were measured over the same 2025-08 through 2026-07, 12 months, human traffic only window as the rest — not from the day we thought of them.
We set out to put the BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche total against Genesis Motor, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia. We are not publishing a multiple. Only 0 of the 3 Korean marques has an article in all four editions. Hyundai has none in the Thai Wikipedia, and Genesis has one only in Indonesian. Putting a one-marque total against a three-marque total would not be a comparison between kinds; it would be a comparison between how many articles happen to exist. So no multiple is given here.
The gap that stopped the comparison is itself the thing worth reporting: the Thai Wikipedia has an article on BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, and none on Hyundai.
Reads are not sales. This is how often an encyclopaedia article is opened, not how many cars are sold. We hold no sales figures here, so this page says nothing about who buys what, and a missing article is not a missing market. A marque with a century of motorsport carries model-by-model articles that a reader falls into; that alone can move reading without moving a single sale.
Wikidata records no ambassador or endorsement relation between people and brands. We checked and found none in use. So this cannot say who fronts which house. It measures how much a brand is read about, next to how much a person is read about, on one scale.
Measured: 30 brands. Source — Wikimedia Pageviews API, human traffic only; brand identity from Wikidata. Countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia.
Five cards, 1080×1350. Every figure on them is in the table on this page. Take them.
A man and a woman read out the two figures in the table above — 53.79 and 38.45, both for Indonesia. Free to repost with the address on it.

Seventeen seconds on the two brand kinds this panel had left out, and on the moment we found one company was three quarters of the technology total and cut our own headline from five times to one point three. Free to repost with the address on it.

One morning brought two announcements: a BLACKPINK member fronting an iPhone camera, a BIGBANG member fronting McDonald's. Our brand panel covered luxury, jewellery, fashion and cars — not phones, not burgers. So we added both.

Split 22 brands by kind and the four Southeast Asian countries swap places. Indonesia is first among car makers on 53.79 reads per million and last among luxury houses on 38.45. A single ranking hides that.

Every share on this page is measured against those totals, so a big edition does not win by being big. Brands we could not measure at all: 0 — every brand in the list returned a figure.
