One Hour in Six We Count as Korean Sits Under a Title Someone Else Also Used. What That Does to the Numbers.
Of the 243 Korean titles we track on Netflix charts, 76 share an exact English name with a film or series from another country. Desire is used by sixteen. We measured our own blind spot and are printing it.
Every Korean viewing-hours figure anyone publishes, ours included, starts with a question nobody asks out loud: how do you know that chart row is the Korean show?
Netflix publishes a title and a country’s top ten. It does not publish an identifier. So the match is made on the name — and names are not unique.
We checked all 243 of them
We asked Wikidata, for every Korean title we count, which countries have produced a film or TV series carrying exactly that English label. 975 works came back.
| Titles | Share of hours | |
|---|---|---|
| Name no one else uses | 163 | 83.6% |
| Name shared with at least one foreign work | 76 | 15.9% |
| Could not confirm from the label | 2 | 0.2% |
| Nothing returned | 2 | 0.4% |
One hour in six that we count as Korean sits under a name another country has also used.
The biggest ones
| Title | Hours | Also made in |
|---|---|---|
| The Glory | 561m | China |
| Bloodhounds | 353m | United States |
| Love Next Door | 340m | Thailand |
| Business Proposal | 279m | Hong Kong |
| True Beauty | 242m | Canada, United States |
| Little Women | 164m | Japan, UK, United States |
| Hellbound | 163m | United States |
| Sweet Home | 123m | Japan, Poland, Spain |
And some names are not shared with one country but with a crowd. Desire is carried by works from sixteen countries. The Guest by twelve, including the Soviet Union. Oasis by eight, Trigger by seven.
Does that mean the numbers are wrong?
No — and we want to be exact about why not.
A shared title means the name alone cannot settle which work charted. It does not mean the entry is a mismatch. In practice a Korean show on a Korean chart week, in a market where Korean titles run 20 to 30 per cent of slots, is overwhelmingly the Korean one. We looked and did not find a wrong entry.
What the 15.9 per cent measures is how much of our count rests on a name instead of an identifier. That is a different thing from an error rate, and it is the honest thing to publish, because the reader cannot see it otherwise.
Why print your own blind spot
Because the alternative is a number that looks cleaner than it is. Every viewing-hours table you have read about Korean content was built this way — on names — and almost none of them say so.
We would rather you knew which sixth of our figure is resting on a label, and which titles those are, than have you find out from someone else.
Wikidata country-of-origin for every exact English label we count, resolved 2 September 2026, against Netflix Tudum weekly top-10 country lists. Exact label matches only. Works with no Wikidata entry are not counted here, which means the true overlap is higher than 15.9 per cent, not lower.

What we checked
- 243 Korean titles, checked against 975 works carrying the same English labels, covering 24.4 billion viewing hours in total.
- 163 titles (83.6 per cent of hours) carry a name no other country's film or series uses. 76 titles (15.9 per cent of hours) share an exact English name with at least one foreign work.
- 2 titles (0.2 per cent) could not be confirmed as Korean from the label, and 2 more (0.4 per cent) returned nothing. No title was unreachable.
- The largest shared titles by hours: The Glory 561m hours (also China), Bloodhounds 353m (also United States), Love Next Door 340m (also Thailand), Business Proposal 279m (also Hong Kong), True Beauty 242m (also Canada and United States).
- Breadth, not just hours: Desire is used by works from sixteen countries, The Guest by twelve, Oasis by eight, Trigger by seven, Little Women by four, Sweet Home by four.
What we left out, and why
- Any claim that a specific chart entry is wrong. A shared title means the name alone cannot settle which work charted — it is not evidence of a mistake, and we did not find one.
- Near matches, subtitles and translated variants. We compared exact English labels only; a looser match would inflate this number and we would not be able to defend it.
- Works outside film and television, and works with no Wikidata entry at all. Both would push the real overlap higher than 15.9 per cent, not lower.
- Any correction to our published figures. This measures how much of our count rests on a name rather than an identifier; it does not restate any number.
